Data Engineer

We are looking for a Data Engineer to join our client’s team. In this role, you will be responsible for the technical management and support of a large database system and its associated application. A key focus will be on migrating data to a modern ecosystem and sunsetting the legacy system once the migration is complete.
You will also be involved in application management, including handling contracts, licenses, and activities related to the application life cycle. Depending on business priorities, you may also be engaged in other projects and initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the process of sunsetting a large database system, including:
- Planning and coordinating all related activities,
- Collaborating with external vendors and data owners,
- Providing guidance and consultancy on data migration best practices,
- Validating the completeness and accuracy of the migration.
- Application management – take technical responsibility for the application and database.
- Support ongoing initiatives as part of the data engineering team.
- Oversee contracts, licenses, and life cycle activities related to applications and databases.
Requirements:
- Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and object-oriented programming.
- Experience with containerization tools and practices (Kubernetes, Docker).
- Practical knowledge of DevOps, including integration of logging, testing, monitoring, and alerting within data pipelines.
- Familiarity with cloud technologies (Azure or AWS).
- Experience with database administration, including: Performance management, Monitoring, Data retention and purging, Incident handling.
- A team player with a proactive approach and eagerness to learn new technologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a critical and experimental mindset.
